Hidden Animals

To start the activity, students will utilize a light blue cool color pencil to create an upside-down drawing of a safari animal, which is a helpful technique for drawing. Following this, students will produce three or more designs that cover the entire page using warm colors such as red, yellow, and orange. Once this is finished, students will craft red glasses utilizing red film that will block out the warm colors from their artwork and reveal the cool colors, in this case, the light blue animal on their paper. Finally, students will write three intriguing hints about the animal on an index card and stick it underneath their drawing.

As an extension activity, students can choose up to five animals to draw. They will color their animal drawings with different cool colors such as purple, green, and dark blue. Once they finish their drawings, they will use warm colors to create designs covering the whole paper. After that, students will display their drawings on the board, and each student will take turns using the red glasses to guess what their classmates have drawn.
