Abstract Foil Art

We created abstract art by utilizing a black Sharpie to create a design on a blank piece of paper. Then, we utilized a range of colored markers to decorate a piece of foil with a pattern. Upon finishing the coloring of the foil, we sprayed it with water. Then, we took our designed paper and pressed the design side onto the foil. By pressing the paper down, the colors on the foil were absorbed by the paper. Finally, we placed our completed artwork on a separate piece of foil to dry and were able to make another one afterward.

As an additional activity, teachers can encourage their students to experiment with various writing tools. One group could try using watercolor paints, another group could utilize markers, and another group could use pens or crayons. This exercise will provide the students with an opportunity to observe which writing tools work best with foil and water.
