Print Making

For this project, we crafted a design that symbolizes ourselves. I chose an outline of puppy ears and a bone because I love my dogs. Initially, we generated a design that represents us, and then sketched three variations on a piece of paper, selecting one for the project. Afterward, we drew the design on a smaller piece of paper and attached a foam square to the back of it. We retraced the design, creating an imprint on the foam. To color the foam piece, we had the option of using cool/warm colors, primary colors, or secondary colors. I opted for cool and warm colors. We then dampened a blank piece of paper and pressed the colored foam onto it. Next, we used a roller to roll over the foam onto the paper, and upon removal of the foam paper, we discovered our final product.

As an additional activity, teachers can prompt their students to create a design that correlates with another subject they are learning. For example, if they are studying animals that live in the forest in science, students can create a design featuring an animal and utilize printmaking to create another design of that specific animal.
